You may decide to gift a portrait commission for a friend too, either as a surprise gift or in the form of a pre-paid gift voucher. I aim to answer all of your questions here on this page.

Good Photo

Bad Photo

The better the reference photo, the better the painting can be!

Using great quality reference photos as inspiration, I can zoom right in to view the details without losing any clarity, which is particularly important when painting faces. It helps me to bring the painting to life and create a realistic likeness to the person or pet. The finished piece can only be as detailed as the photo provided, so it's crucial that you can provide me with high resolution photos.

For example, If you send a poor quality photo of someone in an awkward pose with red eye glare and partially obstructed by an object, I could guess or invent the missing details but it's risky and might not turn out perfect. The photo is the only reference I have to go by, and I would never be happy handing over a less than satisfactory painting.

If you're unsure whether your photos are suitable, send them to me so I can take a look. I'm always happy to give tips to help!
